Preventing Homelessness in Veterans

Posted by Daily news 27 September, 2008 (0) Comment

Invisible injuries of war in Iraq and Afghanistan are showing up in returning troops, and a recent Pentagon surveys estimates that 20% will suffer from "temporary stress injuries" and 10% from "stress illnesses" that lead to pervasive social dislocations. PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injuries can lead to a cascade of problems interfering with a veteran's re-entry into society, employment and family. The Jericho Project, a 25-year old national leader in solving homelessness, is helping with its innovative Veterans Initiative including permanent supportive housing, comprehensive services and ongoing peer support. Two specially designed Veterans Residences will be in the Bronx, NY; and one is breaking ground this fall. (PRWeb Jul 2, 2008)

Betancourt, Colombia Hostage Rescue: Israel Plays Guiding Role – Alex Safian of CAMERA Available for Comment

Posted by Daily news 27 September, 2008 (0) Comment

Upon her dramatic rescue last week from the custody of Colombian rebel group FARC, as reported in the July 3 edition of the Wall Street Journal, Ingrid Betancourt stated "This is a miracle, a miracle. We have an amazing military. I think only the Israelis can possibly pull off something like this." In fact, according to Yossi Melman's 4/7/08 article in Ha'aretz, although Israelis did not directly take part in the rescue, Israeli security experts advised and guided the Colombian military in the planning of the successful operation through Global CST–an organization owned by former Israeli Defence Forces General Staff operations chief Brigadier General (res.) Israel Ziv and Brigadier (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser. According to Melman's piece, the Israeli group also provided equipment and intelligence technology to aid in the mission. Alex Safian PhD, Associate Director of CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America), is available for commentary regarding Israel's involvement in the rescue and Israeli anti-terror activities in general. Dalai Lama Protested by Hundreds of Tibetan and Western Buddhists in Philadelphia – Demonstrations Highlight Dalai Lama’s Persecution of Thousands of Tibetan-Exile Citizens

Posted by Daily news 27 September, 2008 (0) Comment

The Western Shugden Society (WSS) along with hundreds of Tibetan and Western monks, nuns and others will be protesting the Dalai Lama outside the Kimmel Center this Wednesday. The protestors who have traveled from over 18 different countries hope to shed light on a wealth of evidence and first hand testimony available showing the Dalai Lama's current and aggressive acts of religious persecution through ban on a 400-year old mainstream prayer to the Buddhist Deity Dorje Shugden, including a campaign of forced segregation and denial of basic human rights such as food and medical treatment. The protesters will be greeting the Dalai Lama and the 2000 others attending his public talk with colorful banners and loud persistent chants. (PRWeb Jul 14, 2008)
