The mayor of New Orleans ordered to evacuate the city before the arrival of Hurricane ‘Gustav’

Posted by 31 August, 2008 (0) Comment

* It takes almost the same path that Katrina three years ago
* It could reach Category 5 in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico
* Made landfall on Monday somewhere in the state of Louisiana

New Orleans .- The mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, last night ordered the evacuation of the American city to the imminent arrival of Hurricane ‘Gustav’, which it named “the mother of all storms,” after its passage by Cuba with winds of 240 km / h.

The evacuation, which will not meet physically by the authorities, beginning on the flooded region west of the city at 8.00 local time on Sunday (15.00 hours peninsular Spanish), followed by the east at 12.00 local time (19.00 in Spain), Nagin said.

The powerful hurricane ‘Gustav’, category 4, entered yesterday in the Gulf of Mexico, whose warm waters could strengthen en route to the oilfields and the New Orleans area, which is particularly vulnerable because of its placement under the level of sea and protected by dikes.

The meteorologists forecasts indicate that addresses the state of Louisiana, where New Orleans is still recovering from the disaster in 2005 caused by Katrina.

According to the latest report of the National Hurricane Center (CNH) U.S., the winds of ‘Gustav’ dropped slightly to 220 mph, although, as happened with Katrina, could be strengthened into a category of cyclone 5 on the waters of the Gulf.

Authorities in New Orleans, still conscious of the 1,500 dead and 80,000 million dollars in damage caused by Katrina, ordered the evacuation since Sunday in the West Margin of inhabitants of the city, easily flooded.

“I must tell you that this is the mother of all storms,” said the mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin. “They worry and leave right now from New Orleans,” he said. The highway near the city were congested and hundreds of people, some still emotionally affected by the disaster of Katrina, queuing up to take buses bound for a safe place.

The oil companies, which have about 4,000 platforms in the Gulf, were prepared to evacuate its staff and close some three quarters of its crude production. Katrina and Hurricane ‘Rita’, which hit the area three weeks later, destroyed more than 100 platforms in the Gulf. Some believe that ‘Gustav’ could be even worse.

“This storm will be even more dangerous than Katrina (…) I think it will prove to be a worse scenario for the production area,” said analyst Jim Roullier, the consultant Planalytics. Nearly 25% of U.S. oil and 15% of natural gas produced in the Gulf.

‘Gustav’ has resurrected the ghost of Katrina, whose forces led the tide exceed the dikes of the city in 2005 and floods up to 80% of New Orleans, which was plunged into chaos. The dykes have been strengthened, but there are still vulnerabilities in some neighborhoods devastated by Katrina, according to federal authorities. More than 11.5 million Americans could feel the impact of ‘Gustav’, according to the Census Bureau.

President George W. Bush telephoned the governors of the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas to give them full support of the federal government, said the White House.

Walter Parker, a security guard who in 2005 spent eight days trapped in his apartment by flooding from Katrina, was on Saturday queue at the bus station in New Orleans next to families with children and bags to slopes. “I do not want to see another Katrina, with corpses floating in the water,” he said.

By measuring the impact of political communication audiovisual

Posted by Last minute news 30 August, 2008 Comments Off

< >

Each spot, debate or audio-visual appearance of candidates is submitted via the Internet to a panel of more than three hundred people, at a rate of one hundred per political inclination. That is to say, a hundred Democrats, a hundred Republicans, Independents and another hundred. Participants responded to a survey before and after viewing the ad, to measure the impact of spot changes in their opinion about the candidate. In addition, during the viewing of the advertisement, respondents move the mouse left to right to indicate a lesser or greater credibility than to offer them the video. The position of the mouse in this continuum from left to right is recorded each quarter of a second, which allows researchers to show the credibility of the ad in real time, superimposing three curves (one for each ideological side) to the development of the video.

At the end of each case study, each candidate (Obama and McCain) is assigned a final score, which the researchers call the “Political Communications Impact Score” (PCIS). To measure the effectiveness of the ads is subtracted the score for the rival candidate to the candidate’s author of the video, which allows measuring and comparing the effectiveness of each spot. For now, according to the results of the researchers, Obama’s videos tend to move in a score of 10, while those of McCain slightly exceed 7.

Although the perpetrators of these studies provide the results of each survey in PDF format, remains a doubt with what is the specific formula by which the said PCIS is calculated. It would also have to know the statistical representativeness of the panel of Internet users who answered the survey.

With all these precautions in mind, the heads of marketing, scholars and the general public have a new indicator to assess the impact of the videos election.

Posted by Last minute news 30 August, 2008 (0) Comment

Ipower Colores

The iPower is a new charger that was built for 3G iPhones, which acts as a econd battery to increase the length of the device. The ability of this peculiar shipper is about 2200 mAh and is used depends on the condition that the battery of the iPhone is because it has a switch on or off.

This charger takes 3 hours to charge your battery (forgive the repetition), then those three hours are the overtime you have to use your iPhone with iPower connected before you run out the battery, then it will have to load one of the two gadgets.

It seems an interesting gadget if you own an iPhone and use it too, those hours you lose by not having your battery can catch up with the iPower andalusia reasonable price of U.S. $ 44.

US open tennis event

For the first time since the start of the Australia Open in 2004 began a Grand Slam without Roger Federer as world number one. Melbourne, then, marked the end of the brief reign of Andy Roddick, who took over from Juan Carlos Ferrero in the autumn of 2003. The Swiss player left in Australia champion, took command of the circuit and continued for the well-known 237 weeks.

“It is probably a good thing going into a big differently, without the number one on me,” said the defender of the title yesterday at press conference on the eve of the U.S. Open. “Rafa is going to feel now what I have felt for a long time.” The aforementioned, as plain as it is customary, said that carrying so precious label does not alter the degree of pressure. We believe. On that side, in regard to their well-furnished head, has sufficient grounds to warrant the maximum credit.

There is another issue on which more delicate stops today Pat Cash in the British newspaper ‘The Sunday Times’. Anyone who was Wimbledon champion in 1987 on a back problem eased by the formidable performance of Spanish. “The tracks of cement Flushing Meadows are cruel to the body, and the program, with the semifinals in the Super Saturday and the finals just 24 hours later, is a torture,” says Cash. With chronic tendinitis in both knees, which leads conveniently protected, and a game that, despite its considerable technical progress, is based on speed and physical strength, it seems clear that the very environment of the Olympic champion will take appropriate action. But the timetable is and what is difficult, even more so with the responsibilities of number one, will be able to reduce it substantially. What is more normal, according paint the lottery next year, will see increasingly less frequently in the Davis Cup.

Cash It also refers to the need to restrict the advertising and media commitments, which are multiplying exponentially. The temptation to make money is often difficult to bear in elite sport. As for the public dimension of the lad, is acenturará external advice on his speeches and attitudes, the formation of an idol to use, dilute its identity, tempered freshness, spontaneity and sympathy sold at fair conclusion.

Another day, and this, of those who did not play. Yesterday, Monday was day match and, therefore, the routine is to match day. Warming morning, as they played the third match of the day, and wait. After the clash, the usual press conference, photo session with the trophy that gave me to win the ‘U.S. Open Series’ and for the hotel. Speaking of these ‘U.S. Open Series’ I’ only ‘played two tournaments. I won Toronto and made semis in Cincinnati. That fact has arrived with an equal number of points that Murray at U.S. Open, but since he won in Toronto account the direct confrontation and that is why I say that I won. There are people who do not appreciate enough what the game and Murray Trust me that is very good.

The ‘U.S. Open Series’ gives you the right, so to speak, to be able to play the U.S. Open and winning the biggest prize money in tennis. Well, that seems bigger, the other day someone asked me what we saw as the party of Madrid: “Rafa, do you think of the money they can earn during a match? And the answer is very simple:” Not at all. ” At these levels, the truth that we do not think about money. Only looking to win. The importance of getting that title so important. There may be people who think badly about what I say, it need not be so.

Finally, after all that work, parties, always spend two hours more or less until we leave the hotel. Today he played day off from the long, as I say, because no game tomorrow and that allows you to have a training day for calmer than usual. We do not believe in the party the next day and the resulting tension or nerves of the competition. These days are not usually are those that allow you to do something for the less common. Training in the morning and then I went to play golf with Tomeu, Salva and Benito. Tomeu is a childhood friend of mine who occasionally travels with me to a tournament. In addition, trains and helps me with me. Today we had a spectator luxury, and Sergio García who came to training balls and even a little earlier.

I said, do not play tomorrow either party so that train of 12. I have some things to do for a sponsor of mine and then I will be concentrating preparing the match on Thursday. They say that going to rain so I hope that the predictions are wrong. If not, often mess. A few years ago was horrible rain here. Almost as at Wimbledon and the truth is that something as heavy as it is not there, where we have a house nearby and we can go to relax.

Greetings to everyone.

Microsoft and Oracle gain market share of the data bases

Posted by 28 August, 2008 (0) Comment
BOSTON (USA) .- The sales of programs to databases of Microsoft and Oracle remain strong this year, after both firms win market share from computer services group at IBM in 2007, according to research firm Market Gartner.

“Microsoft and Oracle continue to make progress in some areas of high growth,” said Colleen Graham, an analyst at Gartner in an interview. “IBM continues to struggle,” he added.

Sales of software for databases of Microsoft rose by 16.5% to 3,100 million dollars, driven by growth in Asia and Eastern Europe

The company, which is the third player in the market, also expanded its sales to medium-sized companies in North americas, Graham said.

The market share of Microsoft rose to 18.1% from 17.6%, according to figures from Gartner.

Sales of Oracle, which is by far the market leader, rose by 14.9% in 2007 to 8,300 million dollars, while its market share rose to 48.6% from 47.9%.

Oracle’s strategy to increase its sales is to introduce new functions that can sell its broad base of existing customers, an approach that Graham said he has given dividends.

Sales of IBM, the second largest player in the market, rose 10% to 3,500 million dollars, but its market share fell to 20.7% from 21.3% last year, according to Gartner.

Is Killing whales for 4,500 investigate? – Greenpeace Activist

Posted by 28 August, 2008 (0) Comment
The controversy is served. Japanese researchers have concluded that Minke whales ( ‘Balaenoptera acutorostrata’) today have less fat than 20 years ago. This could be due to a drastic reduction of populations of krill (tiny crustaceans) in the Antarctic Ocean as a result of global warming, which is melting at an accelerated pace of ice banquisas vital for these small animals.

The fat serves cetaceans, like other animals, to isolate the cold polar seas, so that the results of that study warn of the danger faced by this species in the future. An “important discovery without predecentes”, according to the authors, for which it has been necessary to kill more than 4,500 copies over two decades. Is this the way science works?

The investigation turned around the world without any reputable journal would like to publish it. Until ‘Polar Biology’, a German scientific publication, decided to disseminate it in its online edition. For Japanese researchers has been a success, for conservationists, a very questionable to justify hunting ’scientific’ whaling.

“I do not think this can be measured in other ways,” said Lars Walloe, a cetacean expert at the University of Oslo and co-author of the study, referring to the inevitable death of animals.

But the study went beyond, and believed that the decline of krill available adding a recovery of the population of humpback whales ( ‘humpback whale’), over time in grave danger of extinction, which made the Minke had to compete more for getting food.

The study is disclosed less than a year after Japan announced its intention to return to hunt humpback whales for the first time in 50 years, although international pressure finally managed to dissuade him temporarily.
Is worth killing so many whales?

“How many more corpses of whales, the more data you can get, so if you kill many whales, you can take a lot of information. The question is whether it is worth killing so many whales. Hunting science is not science,” he told ‘The Guardian’ Mark Simmons, scientific director of the Society for the Conservation of Whales and Dolphins. In turn, consulted the British scientists did not want to give their views on the matter and was merely commenting that, if true, the results “would be very worrying”.

New York one week postponed a decision on the purchase of Energy East by windmill

Posted by 28 August, 2008 (0) Comment

* The absence of two commissioners had forced them to delay decision
* The Spanish electricity did not want to comment on that

The Public Utilities Commission of the State of New York (NYPSC) has agreed to postpone next September 3 its final decision on the acquisition of the U.S. Energy East by Iberdrola, as indicated by the director of external relations of the NYPSC, James Denn.

The governor of New York has taken this decision due to the absence of “extraordinary cases” of two commissioners at the meeting, so it has opted to postpone the vote a week.

Given this fact, sources have indicated that the company “will not make comments” and will expect the final decision of the regulator scheduled for next week.

However, the commission will hold the planned meeting, the second after last August 20, to discuss the acquisition of Energy East by windmill.

The first meeting was intended to provide a complete picture of the strengths and weaknesses of the proposal from the Spanish electricity to help the commissioners to weigh the risks and benefits of the offer.

Last June, the administrative judge responsible for drawing up a report on the case, Rafael Epstein, recommended against approval of the purchase or that, given the go-ahead, imposing conditions, including restrictions on dividend distributions of Energy East, the imposition of a ‘golden share’ or contributions to the community worth 646 million dollars (434.6 million euros), plus the sale of the fossil generation plants.

The operation, which is valued at 6,400 million euros -3,400 million of assets and other debt-3,000 million, was raised by Iberdrola in June 2007 and had already obtained permits relevant federal and three of the four state, leaving only outstanding The New York.

New York Senator Hillary Clinton also endorsed the operation because “the proposed Iberdrola has potential for further cementing the reputation of the state as a leader in the renewable energy sector,” according to the newspaper publishes’ Democrat and Chronicle.

Among the agreements the company with New York State highlights investment of nearly 2,000 million (1,345 million euros) in renewable projects in the State, as well as an adjustment of rates exceeding 200 million dollars (one of the priorities of the PSC) and the reduction of tariffs immediately after closing the transaction amounting to $ 54 million (36 million).

* ‘Obama is ready to lead americas and restore its leadership in the world’

* Recovery in the 20 minutes lost composure in the six-month campaign

Denver (USA) .- Bill Clinton   in Denver, gave purpose of amendment and asserted that Barack Obama “is ready to be president.” Clinton was on the ballot to defend Obama’s ability as commander in chief. At the end surpassed by far the trance and happy pointed to the Pepsi Center unanimous outcry at the height of his speech where he reiterated that Obama “is prepared to lead americas and restore the americas leadership in the world.”

To illustrate his conversion to the ranks of Obama and his remorse, was himself for example: “16 years ago, the Republicans said of me that was too young and inexperienced Do you sounds history.” Clinton recalled that the strategy did not work with him and neither will work this time “because Obama is on the correct side of history”.

With insuitada humility and good humor, recalled that the gresca of primaries: “The campaign generated so much heat that increased global warming … In the end, my candidate did not win. But I am very proud of his campaign and not because it was losing in the name of all the people who defended and all the changes he wanted to push “.

“Hillary said on Tuesday in unequivocal terms that will do everything it can to elect Barack Obama,” Clinton stressed. “We are two … In fact, we are already 18 million, because I like Hillary, I want everyone who supported the vote for Barack Obama in November.”

Two hours after the conquest Obama officially the Democratic nomination ‘by acclamation’-and thanks to the direct intervention of Hillary, Bill Clinton wanted to get an capote the candidate, whom he defined as “the embodiment of the American dream.”

Clinton tended a bridge with their own imaginary candidacy in 1992 and stressed “Obama’s ability to inspire people, raising the hopes and give us a high purpose.” “You have the intelligence and curiosity that any president needs to succeed,” he said. “His proposals for the economy, taxes, health care and energy are much higher than the Republican. And it has shown a clear understanding of the challenges extrerior of our policy and our security.”
Praise for Joe Biden

Clinton praised the choice of Joe Biden as vice president. “In his first presidential decision,” he said, “has beaten the ball outside the baseball field.”

The former president recalls his own mandate as “an era of peace and prosperity”, accused the Bush administration of “having strangled the American dream” and said that everything that promises McCain is “more of the same.” “Mandémosles the Republicans a message you can hear very clear, from the Rocky Mountains and through americas: No, thanks.”

“Hillary said on Tuesday in unequivocal terms that will do everything it can to elect Barack Obama,” Clinton stressed. “We are two …”

“In the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory and with faith in the party and the country I’m asking for now speak with one voice,” Hillary said at the time of voting or stop the traditional ‘roll Call ‘. Half the delegates had already expressed their preferences, and dozens of them spoke even by the former first lady, who intervened when it was time to the state of New York.

Obama has reiterated these days than ever doubted the support that Clinton would give his campaign and was enthusiastic after hearing the speech on television on Tuesday, Hillary. “I think at the end of this week the Democratic Party will emerge with new energy and determination to regain the White House.”

Biden said for Obama – These times require an intelligent leader who can bring change –

Posted by 28 August, 2008 (0) Comment
* Not disappointed: attacked McCain, appealed to the middle classes and got leg
* Obama appeared by surprise after the acceptance speech of his’ number two ‘

Denver (USA) .- Barack Obama, on Wednesday nominated by acclamation candidate for the presidency, appeared so unexpectedly at the end of the third day of the Democratic Convention that ended the aspiring vice chair, Joe Biden, with a speech tremendously effective and well structured. The old senator was at the height of his fame: attacked John McCain, appealed to the middle classes and committed one of his famous patinazos.

With all the Pepsi Center on its feet applauding and waving posters with the name of Biden, his wife, Jill, took the stage to announce a surprise. And behind the scenes appeared Obama.

It was a final apoteósico for an audience that had already enjoyed with John Kerry, unsuccessful candidate four years ago, and above all had reached ecstasy with former president Bill Clinton.

Obama and Biden was embraced. The leader improvised a few phrases-alone without the help of these ‘teleprompter’ three-days of appreciation to his fellow candidate and Clinton-present in the stage of honor next to Obama’s wife, Michelle, and closed with a handshake to Biden riveting one of its slogans: “The change starts down.”
The image of the ‘number two’

Before this unexpected end, Biden had been nominated by acclamation of the convention and invited the podium. He introduced his son Beau, 39 years, prosecutor in Delaware-the state to which his father represented in the Senate and officer-in reserve that will be sent to Iraq in October.

The veteran senator, 65 years, more than four decades in the Upper House, wearing his best smile. Exhale a patrician air with his white shirt, blue tie and his two peaks of asomando handkerchief by the jacket’s pocket. It is beautiful and connects with the public to make corear key phrases in his speech a dozen times.

Biden played to perfection the role assigned to it. He appealed to the middle class-from which his father was a car-seller and that in both primaries resisted novelty: Obama. He has been assigned the role of magnet to the most conservative fringe of the electorate toward the Democrats and centrists tired of Bush. The script she masters, of course.

And, of course crushed McCain, whom he mentioned by name a dozen times. First was that the audience applauds shyness with the opposition: “John McCain is my friend. We know from three decades ago. We have travelled the world together. It is a friendship that goes beyond politics. And the personal courage and heroism that John showed [in Vietnam] still surprise me. ”
An attack calculated

After this happens with the crutch, took the stock and the shaking mercilessly. He was comparing the actions of Republican and several milestones negative Bush administration to finish-chanted by the public-this way: “This is not the change is more of the same.” He added: “The decision in this election is clear. These times require more than just a good soldier. They require a leader intelligent, a leader who can bring change, change that everybody knows we need.” Great stock.

In contrast to Obama introduced as the champion of change in the number of repeating chorus: “This is the change we need.” And then, put on the ground of his predilection-external relations-was comparing the positions of Obama and McCain to finish: “John McCain was wrong. Barack Obama was right.”

Before the final apotheosis, Biden took time to justify its reputation metepatas referring to John McCain and George, the name Bush. It left the passage fluently: “It was a Freudian patinazo, friends, a Freudian patinazo”.

NATO urges Russia to rectify while Moscow seeks support in China

* U.S. military moves ships in the Black Sea to Russia said that bearing arms to Georgia
* The separatist Abkhazia to Moscow park offers part of the fleet on its shores
* Moscow criticizes the presence of NATO ships, which replied that it was already planned
* The Alliance calls on Russia to reverse its decision to support the separatist Georgian

Tension grows in the Caucasus at times. While France warned Russia that its decision to recognize the independence of the Georgian breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia “have consequences” and the U.S. military-positioning ships allegedly loaded with humanitarian aid in the Georgian coast, the Russian president seeks support in China.

Pressure grows and tries to find allies. The 26 NATO countries have urged him to reverse its recognition of independence, and have warned that security and stability in the Caucasian republic is “important” for the Alliance.

Dmitri Medvedev had an encounter with the Chinese head of state, Hu Jintao, in Dushanbe, where he had been informed of the situation of conflict in the southern Caucasus, said Russian state television. The leaders will attend this Thursday at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the capital of Tajikistan.

The SCO was established in 2001 and comprises China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kirguiszistán, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. One of the aims of the group is to counter U.S. influence in Central Asia.

According to a Kremlin adviser, Medvedev will try to convince China and the former Soviet republics in central Asia that the recognition by Russia of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the separatist provinces of Georgia, was a necessity. Russia and China also discussions during the summit on military cooperation.
Black Sea: U.S. ships and NATO

Meanwhile, tension also note at sea. U.S. military has diverted a ship loaded with humanitarian aid to Georgia from the port of Poti, controlled by the Russian Army, to Batumi, near the border with Turkey, according to Georgian media have reported. ‘Dallas’, the U.S. Coast Guard, arrived on Wednesday to Georgian port where last Sunday had already docked the destroyer “USS McFaul.

The Russian army has expressed fears that aboard U.S. ships are also weapons to the Georgian Armed Forces. In fact, the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, accused the U.S. of sending arms to Georgia in the Navy ships through the Georgian port of Poti on the Black Sea.

For his part, chairman of the separatist region of Abkhazia, Sergei Bagapsh, has offered to the military leadership in Moscow on temporary stationing of part of its fleet in the Black Sea coast abjasa.

In addition, Poti and Batumi is meeting the fleet of war by NATO. We will take measures to address this situation, “Bagapsh said after visiting the port of Batumi portamisiles Russian cruiser” Moscow “.

The Russian General Staff has criticized several times in recent days the presence of warships from NATO in the Black Sea. “Under the pretext of humanitarian aid, NATO is reinforcing its military presence in the Black Sea”, denounced the vicejefe of the Russian General Staff, Anatoly Nogovitsin.

NATO, however, insists that the increased presence of warships of its member countries is part of some military manoeuvres planned long in the western part of the Black Sea, off the coast of Bulgaria and Romania, and is unrelated to the conflict in southern Caucasus.

Usb Jewel 1

I suppose something that never existed as unhelpful as this pen, covered in fake gold and diamonds, as the final product costs only $ 39, but equally so for that price is pretty useless to buy a pen so that all you have is the aesthetics.

In general, do not know many of the same features as the site does not mention, but Ubergizmo estimated that the capacity will be between 2 and 4GB. I do not think so, because usually this kind of gadgets can not have much capacity because all that matters to them is the aesthetics of it.

Mini Cadena Airis L204

The AIRIS to have presented their new Mini Chain L204, a compact multimedia system with a 7-inch LCD screen, CD / DVD player, FM radio, ability to store up to 30 radio stations, remote control and tuner TV to watch TV from it.

It seems pretty good, especially that of a monitor to provide not only music, but also can be used to show videos or watch TV on it.

The price is relatively cheap, because the product is not something that seems to be very economical, but it costs only 200 euros, so that anyone could buy.
